M7 takes cable TV to smartphones and tablets

Posted on by

M7 Deutschland, operator of the German KabelKiosk platform, will enable cable households to access their TV channels on further reception devices through the new multiscreen solution BasisHD, developed by Stream Group.

The multiscreen app will be available for smartphones and tablets running on iOS and Android as well as for Chromecast and can be used on up to five devices per household. Through the local Wi-Fi home network, it streams more than 70 public and commercial free-to-air TV channels to mobile devices and also supports M7’s whole pay-TV offering.

For selected channels, there will be a replay and restart function for time-shifted television. As a while label product, the app can be offered under the cable operator’s own brand.

“Only M7 offers TV provision solutions for cable and IPTV networks from one source. Cable and IP now grow together even more closely: The new bundle containing BasisHD, our multiscreen app and the secondary smartcard for additional TV sets takes real multiscreen TV into the cable household,” said Alessandro Lanfranconi, Managing Director of M7 Deutschland.

“With this offering for a premium cable subscription, we sustainably push forward the development of HDTV and second screen on cable – for a flexible cable TV service at eye level with other multiscreen offerings,” added Lanfranconi
